How Kemet Compass handles information collected through kemetcompass.com and related customer-service activity.
Kemet Compass is an independent publishing brand operated by Richard Smith. This policy applies to kemetcompass.com and to information collected when you use the site, place an order, create an account, contact customer support, or otherwise interact with Kemet Compass directly.
Questions about this policy may be sent to info@kemetcompass.com.
Depending on how you use the site, we may collect information such as your name, email address, billing information, order details, account information, support messages, IP address, browser/device information, and records related to digital delivery.
We do not need or request sensitive financial credentials such as online-banking passwords, PINs, or complete payment-card numbers.
Orders placed directly through Kemet Compass are processed through WooCommerce, the store software running on our website, and WooPayments, the payment service currently enabled for direct checkout. WooPayments and its payment infrastructure receive the billing, payment, and transaction information needed to authorize and process payments, screen for fraud, issue refunds, and make payouts. Kemet Compass receives the order and transaction information needed to fulfill the purchase and provide support, but does not receive complete payment-card numbers.
Purchases made through Amazon or Etsy are also subject to those marketplaces’ privacy and payment practices. Kemet Compass does not control how those platforms collect or process information.
We may use collected information to process and deliver orders; provide download access and customer support; maintain customer accounts; communicate about orders or service issues; operate, secure, and improve the website; prevent misuse or fraud; keep business and tax records; and comply with applicable legal obligations.
We do not sell personal information to advertisers.
Kemet Compass uses WordPress and WooCommerce as the site and storefront software. The site also uses hosting, caching, security, payment, and related web technologies that may use cookies or similar browser storage for sessions, carts, account access, checkout, security, preferences, and site performance.
You can control cookies through your browser, but disabling some cookies may prevent parts of the site—such as the cart, account, or checkout—from working correctly.
Kemet Compass does not currently sell personal information or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. The site may use cookies and similar technologies necessary for storefront operation, checkout, security, performance, and other functions described in this policy.
Some browsers provide Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signals. Kemet Compass does not currently alter its ordinary site operation in response to legacy Do Not Track signals. Where applicable law requires recognition of an opt-out preference signal such as Global Privacy Control, Kemet Compass will honor that signal as required. If our advertising or data-sharing practices change, this policy will be updated accordingly.
The website is hosted through Hostinger, which provides hosting and infrastructure services. WordPress and WooCommerce are the software used to operate the site and store; they are not described here as separate external processors merely because the software is installed on this self-hosted site.
Customer information may be transmitted to external providers only where needed to provide a service, such as hosting, payment processing, email delivery, customer support, security, analytics, or other operational functions that are actually enabled. For direct store payments, WooPayments is the external payment service currently in use. Amazon and Etsy process information under their own terms and privacy practices for purchases made through those marketplaces.
Kemet Compass uses the following operational retention targets: failed, pending, and cancelled direct-store orders—30 days; inactive customer accounts—24 months; completed and refunded transaction records—seven years, subject to accounting, tax, or other recordkeeping requirements; customer-support correspondence—three years; and security or technical logs—up to 12 months unless a longer period is reasonably needed for an investigation, dispute, fraud review, or security matter.
WooCommerce is configured to apply the supported order and account retention periods. Other records may exist in email, hosting, security, backup, or service-provider systems and may follow separate operational or provider retention schedules. Kemet Compass will keep those practices under review so this policy continues to describe the systems actually in use. We use reasonable administrative and technical measures intended to protect information, but no internet service, website, or electronic storage method can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
To make a privacy request, email info@kemetcompass.com and describe the request. Please provide the name and email address associated with the account or order and, when relevant, the order number. We may ask for additional information reasonably necessary to verify identity before providing, correcting, exporting, or deleting personal information.
Some transaction, tax, fraud-prevention, security, dispute, or other records may need to be retained even after an account or privacy request is completed. Applicable rights vary by location and may be subject to legal exceptions or record-retention requirements. For purchases made through Amazon or Etsy, requests involving marketplace-controlled data should be directed to the relevant marketplace.
Kemet Compass is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information online from children under 13. If we learn that personal information from a child under 13 has been collected through the site, we will take reasonable steps to delete it as appropriate. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information through the site, contact us at info@kemetcompass.com.
Purchases must be made by a person who is at least 18 years old or with the permission and involvement of a parent or legal guardian.
We may update this policy as the site, catalog, services, or legal requirements change. The current version posted on this page will govern future use of the site from its effective date.
